Good morning bondsmen,

Round two for compatibility PSAs, this time focusing on Mechwarrior 3 and Pirate's Moon. These are without a doubt the hardest to get running properly. The biggest culprit is the strange usage of z-buffer in the games that doesn't play nicely with our modern hardware. To tackle that obstacle I recommend you use the free dgVoodoo2 plugin. This program will emulate an older GPU and even let you play these games in your native resolution (3440x1440p widescreen in my case).

• To begin you will need to install Mechwarrior 3 and/or Pirate's Moon, and ideally both install to the same default directory. I recommend this because the folder structure is important to keep intact, I've inadvertently broken it 4 or 5 times myself.

• If you don't have a functioning disk anymore/hate slow install speeds you can get an ISO for Mechwarrior 3 here, and Pirate's Moon here. Make sure to download any applicable patch files. If you need imaging software for the ISOs you can grab PowerISO here, for those new to ISOs here is a demonstration about mounting.

• Once everything is installed (you may need to use administrator rights to do so) patch the games with any applicable fixes. 1.2 is the current official build of the game, the patch is available in the download link above, as well as here (credit to u/Plokite_Wolf)

• Next you'll want to grab dgVoodoo2 from here. Grab the 2.53 release about halfway down on the lefthand side. Once it is downloaded copy everything from the MS folder (3 files) to the folder where your Mechwarrior 3 executable is, AS WELL AS where your Pirate's Moon executable is. Critical step, also copy the dgVoodoo2 configuration executable to both of those places.

• Next you need to apply a framerate limiter to the game, or else it will run super fast and APCs will literally bounce into orbit. Samsung toner chip reset software download. Rivatuner is my goto, you can get it here. Rivatuner is bundled with MSI Afterburner, install both then specifically launch Rivatuner (start menu > search bar > rivatuner).

• Once it opens you should see a list of programs on the left, find the executable for Mechwarrior 3 and select it. Press the plus sign/cross button at the bottom, and in the right hand side at framerate limit set it to 60 (maximum I recommend). Remington serial number dates.

• Now before you play the game go back to your install directories and launch the dgVoodoo2 config executable. Click the directx tab on the top right, from this menu set your resolution and force AA. Also uncheck the watermark if it bothers you.

You should be ready to play at this point if all steps were followed correctly. If the game runs wildly fast ensure that rivatuner is open, it has to be running in the background everytime you play. If you get weird graphical anomalies ensure you patched the game and that dgVoodoo2 and the 3 MS files were correctly copied to your installation directories where the Mechwarrior 3 executable lives. Lastly music doesn't seem to work for me, I recommend you use a youtube looper to play the soundtrack. It's a very simple OST, but the music does add good ambiance.

MechWarrior 3 is a quantum upgrade on all fronts from the excellent MechWarrior 2, which is saying quite a bit. The tremendous attention to detail in the graphics, gameplay and virtually every other aspect makes this one of the best games of the 1990s, let alone 1999. It is the graphics that will initially grab you and pull you in. Flowing landscapes and wonderful animation are all well and good but MechWarrior 3 goes one better. Shoot off an enemy 'Mech's leg and you'll see the pieces go flying as the enemy crashes to the ground. Drop a Smoke Jaguar tank and you'll marvel at the intricate explosion. This is good stuff.

But graphics only go so far in terms of making a game good. Fortunately for giant robot fans, MechWarrior 3 has it in other areas where it counts as well. Gameplay is initially difficult thanks to the incredibly complex control scheme. After the training missions, though, things smooth out quite a bit. It's much easier with a good multi-button joystick but MechWarrior 3 can be played successfully using nothing more than the keyboard and mouse. The packed-in reference card is a handy and useful addition.

You will need a decent system in order to run the game smoothly. If you've got the muscle in your system, you'll be rewarded with a game that is visually stunning. However, systems with a little less power can run it also and, even toned down, it looks better than a lot of similar games.

The only real complaint I have is in the tutorial section. Regardless of what I did at certain points, the tutorial would not continue. I would do exactly what was asked and nothing would happen. This sort of problem did not occur in the actual campaign game, though, so it's not serious enough that you should consider passing on the game.

There is a patch available for MechWarrior 3 that addresses many of the problems that were unfortunately present in the initial release. One issue that has been corrected is the unbalanced impact certain weapons had on the flow of the game. The adjustments now make it more difficult for 'Mechs to fall after taking leg damage. Another problem solved is the needed increase in movement of torso twist when using the mouse as the controller.

Other features of the patch include fixes of sound problems (crackling and popping noises eliminated), tightening of environmental locations so players will no longer jump jet through ceilings or fall through the terrain and certain 'Mech movement problems. In multi-player mode, latency has been improved, an option for up to eight players in Team Play is now supported at the MSN Gaming Zone, leg armor has been improved and the chat glitch that appeared after saving your 'Mech configuration has been fixed. Full details of all patch issues are included in the patch 'readme' file and at the various gaming sites.

MechWarrior 3 is the type of game that caused many of us to start gaming in the first place. Ellen g white writings free download.
