Stolen Gun Serial Number Lookup

  • The safest way to search for the history of a gun is to collect the serial number from the owner's manual or body of the gun and then ask a local official, such as a gun shop or law enforcement department, for its history.
  • I have the serial number and wanted to find a way to check to see if it has any shady history. Any suggestions? Obviously, we'll call in for a transfer code to put on the purchase agreement.

Stolen

If we enter the serial number of an evidence gun into the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) database, it will tell us if that serial number has been reported as stolen, or if it has been identified as a “crime gun” known to have been used in a crime. Additionally, data contained in the various 'want files,' i.e., the stolen vehicle file, stolen license plate file, stolen gun file, stolen article file, wanted person file, securities file, boat file, and missing person data may be accessed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

So this is why you MUST record your serial numbers so if someone does manage to steal a firearm, you can report it and maybe get it back IF it is ever found.
Im in that boat now. My neice who was living with us took two of mine while I was out of town working. Traded them off. I didnt find out it was her until a month after I reported it to the police. WITH model numbers, descriptions and serial numbers. Tennis show print gave her up. She's sitting in lockup since Memorial day and we still dont have the people she gave them too. Im still hoping but they may be long gone by now. Lake bottom or something. She's a juvenile, and first time in the system so they are reducing it from two class c felonies to one misdemeanor.
Im a little bent out of shape over it all (okay, a lot), but still hoping she gets the message and turns her life around. Coming to live with us was supposed to help with that in the first place.
